Plan a holiday cookie swap where everyone goes home with a box of different cookies. Bakers claim a kind of cookie and name their recipe, so you do not end up with six batches of chocolate chip.

How many cookies to bake
- The classic rule is one dozen per guest: with 8 bakers, each bakes 8 dozen and everyone goes home with 8 dozen, one dozen of each kind.
- For a lighter swap, ask for half a dozen per guest: with 10 bakers, each bakes 5 dozen and everyone takes home 6 of each kind.
- Add one extra dozen per baker to taste at the party.
How to run the swap
- Set out each batch with its name and recipe card.
- Everyone walks around the table and fills their own box with their share of each kind.
- Taste the extras with hot chocolate and swap recipes.
- Share any leftovers with neighbors or colleagues the next day.
Tips that make it go smoothly
- Six to twelve bakers is the sweet spot: plenty of variety, without so many dozens that baking takes all weekend.
- Ask each baker to bring their recipe on a card. Guests love taking recipes home, and the card doubles as an allergen label.
- Remind everyone to bring an empty box or tin for their share.
- Sturdy cookies travel and keep best. Cream-filled or frosted cookies need to stay cold, so say so in the note.
- Close sign-ups a week before, so bakers have a weekend to bake.

Questions
How do I stop two people baking the same cookie?
Each kind of cookie has a few spots, and bakers write their recipe in the note, so everyone sees what is taken before they choose.
Can guests bring store-bought cookies?
That is up to you. Many swaps welcome them from people who cannot bake; add a "Bakery cookies" spot so it is clear.
Can people see who is baking what?
Yes. Names and recipes are visible by default so bakers can avoid repeats. You can switch names off if you prefer.
